PBN or Private Blog Network backlinks refer to a network of authoritative websites used primarily for building backlinks within the same network in order to influence search engine rankings. These PBNs are typically formed from expired domains that have high domain authorities and backlinks themselves.
For example, if you have a website about dog training, you could create a PBN by purchasing expired domains related to dog training, recreate some relevant content and create links to your original site. This way, the original website gets an SEO boost from these backlinks. Historically, PBNs were used heavily in the mid 2000s prior to Google’s detection algorithms becoming more sophisticated. Nowadays, the usage of PBNs is silently declining as it is considered a black hat SEO technique and can attract penalties from Google.
